Vic High Students Choose Alumni to Spotlight
An ambitious project bringing Vic High history to life is now complete! Students of Vic High librarian, Wendy Burleson, took the opportunity during Vic High’s ambitious renewal, to research Vic High’s history. They recommended 11 students they believed exemplified Vic High values to each be featured on the walls of Vic High. Each alumni was researched and described, and Alumni volunteers helped locate photos. Local graphic designer Lucas Bell designed the 24″ x 24″ acrylic panels, Garside Signs produced them, and School District 61 Facilities have now installed them all.
“It’s wonderful to see our history brought to life,” says Vic High Alumni Board Chair, Helen Edwards, VHS 1964. “We look forward to more representations of Vic High’s history on the school’s walls.” Helen is a well-known local historian and author, and the main contributor to the Alumni’s Heritage Fund, which paid for the design, production, and hanging of the panels. Teachers and students have welcomed them and can be seen stopping to read the stories.
Next time you’re at Vic High, take a walk around, starting with the Points of Interest Spotlight panel and the Agnes Deans Cameron panel in the 2nd floor foyer flanking the Grant Street entrance.
