1968 – 45th Reunion

The infamous Vic High Class of ’68 had another successful reunion….someone mentioned it was our 45th but they might have been talking about our age?!?!?

Hermann’s Jazz Club was the perfect venue…funky, fun and fabulous. Hermann’s is a throw back in time …kind of like us.  Thank you Hermann for generously allowing us to use your club for our reunion.  Also a huge thank you goes to Nan Force Artnzen for all of her help.

Hung right alongside Hermann’s jazz memories were our Class of ’68 memorabilia courtesy of Jackie Dobbyn Martin.  Sandi Mottishaw Duncan and Jackie created jazzy centerpieces to bring some good old black and gold into the venue.  Joe Lindo’s DVD of photos from our ’68 Camosun ran on two TV’s.

The evening started with a lively Happy Hour as grads mixed, mingled, bid at the Silent Auction and bought VHS Wear.  Thank you Pat Bourne Nalleweg for organizing the Silent Auction and many thanks to those who donated and bought. The Silent Auction brought in over $2000.  Thank you to Marlene Dahl for handling the VHS Wear orders.

Group photos were a challenge for our photographer, Peter Nalleweg, but another opportunity for us to laugh and visit. A link to the photos can be found on our website http://vichigh68.wordpress.com/

Our notorious Buffet-line Challenge was interesting this year as grads fought over who got to wear the reading glasses to see the clues.  We want those photos of two Class of ’68 grads kissing!!!!  Send them right now to vichigh68@gmail.com

Our buffet dinner was fabulous!  Thank you Goldstream Catering and we wish you good luck in your retirement.

As dinner ended the Attic Boys took the stage and really got the party started.  People were quickly on their feet dancing.  Thank you Rod McCrimmon, Dave Hill, Rob Lifton (’67) and we missed you Bob Brown.

After a short break the Vic High Rhythm and Blues Band took over and instantly blew the roof off of Hermann’s.  Eric Emde and his students are exceptional and we truly enjoyed every minute of their performance.  The dance floor was packed.  One of our grads, Gary Kirk, decided to Pass the Hat to get a little extra for the band to help cover the costs of their recent trip to Memphis.  He quickly had $360 when Jim Crawford said he and John Turner would match whatever Gary could collect.  Bob Hissink speedily brought the pot to $500 and the Crawford/Turner clan matched that to make it $1000.  The Class of ’68 will also be giving the band an honorarium in appreciation of the great night of entertainment they provided us.

Please mark the May 16th– 19th, 2014 as our next chance to get together at the Celebration of the 100th Birthday of the current Vic High building.  If you have any suggestions or ideas of how we, the Class of ’68, can celebrate either on or off site please send them along to us at vichigh68@gmail.com .   Check the Vic High Alumni website often for further details as they become available. http://vichigh.com/vic-highs-building-turns-100-years
