Elected officials, Vic High Alumni members, and current Vic High staff were joined by representatives of the architect, design and construction teams April 10 to celebrate the renewal and re-opening of Vic High. Many media personnel covered the event, where Mayor Alto and Minister Fleming paid particular tribute to the role of the Vic High Alumni in the project, most notably that of Ian McKinnon, VHS 1966, whose early presentations to various government and school district officials demonstrated what was possible if the existing building was kept and renewed.

Seen arriving for the official opening are L to R: Rob Fleming, MLA for Victoria-Hillside, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure (Minister of Education 2017 – 2020), Nicole Duncan, Chair of School District 61 Board of Trustees, Marianne Alto, Mayor of Victoria,  Rachna Singh, MLA for Surrey-Green Timbers, Minister of Education and Child Care, Grace Lore, MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill where Vic High is located, and Vic High Principal Aaron Parker.

Following the official presentations April 10, CTV’s Brendan Strain was particularly interested in the blending of the old and the new at Vic High, and the Alumni-run Vic High Archives & Museum. Check out his story here.

Here’s the Times Colonist’s article on the opening,  Victoria News’ coverage, coverage by the Goldstream Gazette, CHEK-TV’s story as students returned April 8, and CTV News’ story following the students’ access to Vic High April 5 for their initial tours and orientation..
