Student Return to Vic High Delayed

Student Return to Vic High Delayed

January 8, 2024
Letter sent to all Vic High families by Vic High Principal Aaron Parker
I am writing to provide an update about the Victoria High School seismic upgrade project and addition.
The structural reinforcement of the school and construction of the new Learning Commons, Multipurpose Room and Neighbourhood Learning Centre is nearing completion. The interior finishing of the school is progressing steadily, including, mechanical, millwork and painting. The site work is also progressing well with the completion of the new turf field, volleyball courts, parking areas and landscaping. The final landscaping on the South East side of the building, including the grass field and Grant Street Entrance, will be completed in Spring 2024.
Unfortunately, the completion of some of the interior work has been delayed, specifically the electrical and flooring scope. Although this work is nearing completion, following recent occupancy reviews, it was decided that the school could not be safely occupied by students and staff while this remaining interior work was completed.
Due to these circumstances, the anticipated re-opening date has moved from February 2024 to March 2024. Student and staff safety are our top priority, and we are working with the contractor and consultants to ensure that the building meets City requirements for occupancy and that the remaining work is completed as soon as possible.
Students will continue to attend the S.J. Willis swing site until the project is complete. The bussing between S.J. Willis and the Victoria High School, Fairey Technical Wing for shop related classes will continue.

The District remains committed to providing updates as they become available, including a specific move-in date as the project moves closer to completion. We thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding as we move closer to completion of the project and are excited to return to a beautiful and safe building.
